Head of municipal police Iacob Gumenita accuses Chisinau's mayor Dorin Chirtoaca of intimidating and aggressing the police and of misusing his position to make political statements. Chirtoaca, instead, suggested Gumenita to hold a news conference for that, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The sparring took place at Monday's sitting of the City Hall, in the wake of the Sunday events in Chisinau's downtown, where the Liberal Party with Chirtoaca as vice president was hindered from staging a drive called “The Caravan for withdrawing the Russian Army from Moldova.”
Iacob Gumenita said the fights between the two camps were “a disaster organized by the Liberal Party” and accused the mayor of intimidated “me personally and the police officers”, when the mayor told him he is payed by the mayor. “You're not a firm or a businessman, you are a mayor elected by citizens. You and me are payed from the taxes of every citizen,” Gumenita said.
In response, the mayor suggested Gumenita to hold a news conference to make such allegations. “The City Hall has no connection in here. On the contrary, I myself could pose some questions as to what happened yesterday,” the mayor added.
Last Sunday the police threatened the mayor and other Liberal Party members for having parked their cars in front of the Government's building. The chairman of Tohatin village's cell of the Liberal Party, Ion Postolache, was arrested and taken to a police commissariat.
According to reports, a number of Liberals involved in 'the Caravan' were physically aggressed in Balti town by unidentified people. The Liberal Party accuses the Balti police of not intervening to contain the spirits.
