The municipal clinical hospital “Gheorghe Paladi” was outfitted with modern medical equipment with the support of Japan. Owing to a grant worth over US$86,000, there were purchased surgical lights, an inhalation anesthesia machine and a LigaSure vessel sealing system, IPN reports.

The ceremony to conclude the project that was financed by the Government of Japan in the framework of the Kusanone Program involved Japan’s Ambassador in Chisinau Yamada Yoichiro. The diplomat referred to the medical, humanitarian, psychological and other kinds of support offered implicitly to the Ukrainian refugees. “Not only Japan, but also many other countries were marked and impressed by the best examples of humanity that Moldova showed to the world,” noted Yamada Yoichiro.

The project aimed to strengthen the capacities of the medical institution for performing minimally invasive surgery of a high quality (“one day surgery“ program), contributing to decreasing the incidence of post-surgery complications and reducing the length of patients’ stay in the hospital.

The Kusanone Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Program was launched in Moldova in 2008. Japan so far has provided $6.9 million in grant funding for 82 projects in the fields of education, health care and public utilities.
