Thirty-five workshops and laboratories catering to the various fields of interest of the teachers’ community took place as part of the 2023 Municipal Educational Forum “Chisinau. A Learning City”. After an extraordinary meeting dedicated to the policies of the municipality of Chisinau, where approximately 500 students participated in the discussions, the final day of the Forum was an occasion to discuss the activity of the educational system in the municipality of Chisinau.

Attending the event, Minister of Education Dan Perciun noted that there are two major problems in the education system. The first relates to the shortage of staff. Here more needs to be done to retain teachers and attract new young specialists. The second challenge relates to the inefficient use of resources, which disadvantages teachers in the city, where the number of students increases year after year. He declared that teachers have a reliable partner in the Ministry, which will do everything to increase the prestige of the profession and raise an educated generation.

Chisinau Deputy Mayor Angela Cutasevici declared that the teachers’ mission is essential for the development of societies and individuals in particular. In education, funding precedes performance, which is why in recent years the City Hall has invested in the modernization of school infrastructure to ensure a high-standard and inclusive study process.

Andrei Pavaloi, deputy head of the municipal Education Directorate, said that in the last five years, the number of students in the municipality has been increasing by approximately 3000 students annually, which is significant. The municipality repaired and expanded schools, opened kindergartens and new groups in preschool institutions. In order to motivate school staff, the monthly allowances for renting housing and the allowances for continuous training were increased. Andrei Pavaloi also noted that, whereas in 2019 the budget for youth was 271,000 lei, in 2023 it increased to 60 million lei for youth programs and activities for young people in the municipality of Chisinau. 2023 has been designated as the Year of Youth in Chisinau.
