Five Chisinau councilors that entered the Parliament on the lists of the Liberal Party (PL) and the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) after the April 5 legislative elections picked the seats of MP. Today is the last day when the MPs that hold a post that is incompatible with the post of MP must decide what post they choose, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The first vice president of the PLDM Alexandru Tanase, who was the leader of the Liberal-Democratic faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) until recently, said that he decided to be MP and give up advocacy as well. “I wish the councilors success and patience so that they effectively carry out the plans initiated in the CMC,” Tanase said.
Ghenadie Dumanschi is the new leader of the PLDM faction in the CMC. He will also act as chairman of the Council’s Legal Commission instead of Tanase.
“The PL aims to remove the Communists from power. Therefore, we need a supreme, democratic power. For a certain period, the CMC did not work. The Mayor General of Chisinau also did not have working conditions. I chose to be MP in order to continue the fight against poverty and to contribute to Moldova’s European integration,” the PL president Mihai Ghimpu said.
“We consider that we must have early elections. We can achieve this only if we work in the Parliament,” said Corina Fusu, vice president of the PL and former leader of the party’s faction in the CMC.
Councilor Gheorghe Brega will also be MP because the party decided so. Yet, he said he feels better in the Council, where the law is respected to a great extent. “There (in the Parliament – e.n.), we had three meetings, where there were committed about 30 violations,” Brega said.
The Liberal MP Vadim Cojocaru argued that his party struggles to enter the Parliament and if the people voted for the PL they must respect their decision.
Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca and deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu, who also won seats of MP, announced they remain at the City Hall. The head of Buiucani district Valeriu Nemerenco and the head of the Council’s Health Division Mihai Moldovanu said they will decide by the end of the day.
The departing municipal councilors will be replaced by the persons that come next on the lists.
