The lawmakers said they found out not much about the April 7, 2009 events from the reports presented in Parliament on April 4 and will thus demand that the truth be discovered, IPN reports.
Head of Parliament Igor Corman said it became a tradition to hold hearings before April 7 every year. “It is our duty to insist that the competent institutions continue the investigations, but it is hard owing to the implications at the foreign and internal levels. We will insist because the truth must come out,” he stated, adding that the April 7, 2009 events represent a black page in the country’s history and conclusions should be drawn in order to avoid similar scenarios in the future.
The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said the April 7 events will remain under investigation for a long time. The examination of the cases by courts is delayed a lot and consistence is needed to get at the truth.
Liberal Reformist MP Valeriu Saharneanu said that nothing was done in five years to elucidate the April 2009 events. He proposed asking for an international commission of investigators under the mandate of the EU. “Only this can help us because Voronin’s system continues to work. We left the Liberal Party because during three years we kept this system alive by arguments. This government started to work normally only on May 30 last year,” he stated.
The head of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin said that Moldova has waited for the current government to elucidate what happened on April 7, but in vain. He accused the coalition of not thinking about the country, but only about the personal and party interests. He said the parties that wanted to come to power committed illegalities in order to remove the PCRM from power.
The leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu stated that hearings showed that the government is unable to find out what happened five years ago, but the people still wait for the law enforcement bodies to hold accountable those who tortured children in police stations.
Reports on the investigation of the April 7, 2009 events were rendered in Parliament by Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean, Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, and director of the Security and Information Service Mihai Balan.
