MPs Octavian Țîcu and Iurie Reniță, who run in the July 11 snap parliamentary elections on the list of the National Unity Party, accuse the responsible bodies of making no headway in the so-called Bahamas case. According to them, in this case there were applied schemes by which the Kremlin financed the Party of Socialists in 2016 and a number of Socialist MPs benefitted from these. The MPs asked that the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) and the National Integrity Authority (NIA) should provide information about the developments and the persons involved in this money laundering scheme, IPN reports.

In a news conference, Octavian Țîcu said that during Igor Dodon’s presidency, no progress was made in the Bahamas case as the PGO was subservient to the Socialist leader and Plahotniuc’s friend. This continues to be witnessed as the Party of Socialists, owing to the changes in this Parliament of shame, managed to subdue the PGO and this acts according to the instructions of Dodon and Moscow, with Alexandr Stoianoglo being an incontestable admirer. “Or I cannot understand why things do not move on,” stated the MP.

He noted the prosecutor argued the lack of progress is due to the fact that a commission rogatory between the Republic of Moldova and Switzerland could not be constituted. If the PGO has been unable to ensure clarity during five years, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Embassy of Switzerland could have been asked to become involved, but the PGO didn’t make such a request to the two institutions.

In the same news conference, Iurie Reniță referred to the “kuliokul” case (videos showing Vlad Plahotniuc offering a bag that allegedly contained money to Igor Dodon). He said that even if there are proofs and testimonies in this case, no headway is made and Igor Dodon is this way protected. The state institutions do not appropriately react when it goes to such cases, but they react when they are instructed to find faults with him. “I want to inform Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo that I recently saw a doctor and the doctor examined me and didn’t find anything wrong with me,” said the MP, calling in the responsible bodies to deal with the real criminals.

Contacted by IPN, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office Maria Vieru said the institution does not comment on the absurd statements and accusations made by politicians during the election campaign.
