The inaugural meeting of the 20th Parliament took place today, December 29. The new MPs promised to work for the people and for the country, IPN promised.
Igor Dodon, leader of the party with the most seats but not included in the negotiations for a parliamentary majority, announced that PSRM would be a strong and responsible opposition party. He also asked the MPs to begin the new parliamentary session as soon as possible. “We demand to start the session tomorrow. We are about to enter 2015 without a tax policy. We offer to help in developing the budget. We are already in the cold period of the year, prices are rising because of currency speculation, and those who suffer the most at the vulnerable and elderly people. We must find solutions for them”, said the politician. The Socialists' group will be headed by Zinaida Greceanii and Andrei Neguta will be her deputy.
PLDM leader Vlad Filat expressed his hope that there will be enough courage and reason for a good governance of the country. All the actions of the MPs must be for the benefit of Moldova and its citizens in order to increase the quality of life. “There are many tasks. The situation isn't simple and we have to face it with responsible actions”, said Filat. He will head the Lib-Dems' parliamentary group. Valeriu Strelet was elected vice-president of the group and Angel Agache its secretary.
Violeta Ivanov, head of the PCRM group, bid the new MPs a happy and prosperous New Year. “I hope that in the new Parliament we'll be more responsible, more constructive and that we'll focus our efforts towards solving problems, consolidating society and assuring the well-being of each citizen. We must fulfill our promises to the people. Let this be a better and richer New Year”, said Ivanov. Victor Mandru will be vice-president of the PCRM group and Elena Bodnareco the secretary.
Democrat leader Marian Lupu stressed that the MPs must show their attachment to the values of a legal state and not their ambitions, pride or frustrations. “The rule of law begins here in the Parliament and our behavior and commitment to this country must be unquestionable for each MP. We mustn't defend the interests of other countries in this room. Our mission and responsibility is to defend the interests of one country. We must show responsibility and professionalism”, said Lupu. He will head the PDM group, while Vlad Plahotniuc and Dumitru Diacov will be vice-presidents and Sergiu Sarbu secretary.
Mihai Ghimpu, leader of PL, congratulated all the Moldovans. “Dear citizens, I understood that on November 30 happiness has descended upon all of you and we are left only to wish you a Happy New Year. I just want those who rejoice to recall that in in 1994 a party had 54 seats and in 98 it didn't have any”, stated Mihai Ghimpu. He was elected president of the PL group, while Valeriu Munteanu will be his deputy.
