The initiative to denounce the Agreement on the creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is not politically, economically and socially grounded and could have serious consequences upon the political, economical and commercial relationship of the Republic of Moldova with the member states of the Commonwealth, declared on Wednesday, July 5, the MP, Dumitru Braghis, the chairman of the Social Democracy Party (SDP).
SDP qualifies the initiative of several MPs to denounce the mentioned-above Agreement as a thoughtless action, which could lead to worsening the situation and dividing society. Braghis put stress upon the dangerous insistence of the communists’ parliamentary faction to examine this initiative urgently, without a complex and exhaustive analysis regarding the risks and advantages of abandoning or keeping the capacity of CIS member.
Among the possible problems of the denouncement, Braghis mentioned the possible determination of the member states to introduce a visa regime for Moldovan citizens; to lose the markets of CIS and as a consequence, increasing poverty and unemployment; reducing the possibilities of negotiation as for the Transnistrian dispute and withdrawal of munitions from the left bank of Nistru.
The Parliamentary group of SDP, 4 MPs, proposed to the authors to recall the initiative or they will be forced to vote against it, the quoted source declared.
At the same time, Braghis reiterated that the main objective of SDP related to the foreign affairs is European integration and that it is clear this objective will not be accomplished if Moldova maintains its capacity of CIS member. Regardless of these facts, Braghis considers premature the decision to withdraw from CIS, because it must be done gradually, so the Government could find solutions for diminishing the negative impact.
The bill was proposed by the MPs of “Moldova Noastra” Allaince, Viatalia Pavlicenco and Valeriu Cosarciuc. The communist MPs rejected for several times the examination of the initiative, however a member of the faction proposed to include this issue on the agenda of the sitting that took place on June 29. MNA party opposed to the proposal to examine the project without one of the authors, Valeriu Cosarciuc, who is on a work trip.
The Parliament decided to examine this project at the Thursday sitting, on July 6.
