MP Alexandr Nesterovschi will be held on remand at Penitentiary No. 13 for a period of 30 days. His party mate, MP Irina Lozovan, was placed under house arrest, IPN reports.
The decisions concerning the arrest were taken by the Ciocana Court of Chisinau. Alexandr Nesterovschi was brought before the judges, while Irina Lozovan didn’t come to the court, invoking health reasons.
The court also decided to place activist Mihail Bagas, who was fielded by the Party “League of Towns and Communes” for the mayoralty of Chisinau, in remand detention for a period of 30 days.
Last week, MPs Irina Lozovan and Alexandr Nesterovschi, who are members of the Revival Party, were stripped of parliamentary immunity. Shortly afterward, they were arrested, being accused of accepting illegal financing from an organized criminal group led by Ilan Shor.
Mihail Bagas, who was arrested the same day the two MPs were arrested, is suspected of preparation of and complicity in illegal financing of political parties, initiative groups and election contenders in large proportions and of complicity in and instigation of money laundering committed by an organized criminal group in very large proportions. According to the law enforcement agencies, the Party “League of Cities and Communes” is the pro-European party that was to be taken over by Ilan Shor.
In this connection, the party issued a statement, saying that it hasn’t had and will not have any financial or another kind of ties with representatives of oligarchic groups. If the accusations against their candidate for mayor of Chisinau are proven, the League will withdraw its political support for Mihail Bagas.
