The Parliament assembled on Saturday, July 29 in the last spring-summer plenary sitting. The parliamentary factions expressed different viewpoints concerning the activity of the Legislative in this period. In his final speech, Veaceslav Untila, deputy chairman of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance faction declared that at the end of the session, the Parliament should have been more prepared and mature, with fewer lacunas in its activity comparing with the last session. According to him, the state of affairs in the Parliament remained unchanged: the voting machine works at someone’s command and takes into consideration only the interests of the leading party of some clans and groups of influence. As a consequence, Untila declares, some laws are voted not for Moldova’s sake, but to please the communist majority. In this way, the majority faction affords to tergiversate or to undermine the parliamentary debates on important problems the society confronts with, Untila declared. He gave examples when the communist faction ignored or rejected draft laws aimed at improving the situation in different fields. The quoted source mentioned that his faction will continue to criticize the government “because criticism is a weapon of the opposition”. The leader of the Christian-democrat faction, Vlad Cubreacov said that the political agreement on cooperation concluded with the communist party at the beginning of the legislature has positive effects for the society. According to him, of those 10 proposals agreed upon in the spring of the last year, 9 are already fulfilled. At the same time, the MP mentioned that, regarding the issues on the economic and budgetary reform, the representatives of the leading party were less receptive and did not take into consideration the opinions of the opposition parliamentary groups. Cubreacov expressed his firm belief that the next session will be more prodigious and according to the expectations of the voters. Dumitru Diacov, the leader of the Democrat Party faction declared that the Parliament showed good results during this session, adopted many laws, though their implementation is the main problem of Moldova. Concerning transparency in the Parliament, the leader of the DP said that it evolved lately, though he cannot say that the activity of the Parliament is transparent. Diacov said that the autumn-winter session was difficult because of the economic problems of Moldova. On the other hand, the communist MPs said that the parliamentary activity after last year’s elections develops in a productive and constructive manner. According to the leader of the faction, Eugenia Ostapciuc, during this period, the society’s democratization continued, the fundamental human rights protection was monitored. At the same time she emphasized the fact that some opposition MPs do not want to collaborate in order to ensure the society’s wellbeing and that they can not let aside the politicized methods, electoral slogans, opposing to any constructive steps undertaken by the majority faction in order to solve the major problems of the society. The MP, Oleg Serebrian declared that after president Voronin was elected on April 4 “the state of the nation is as bad as it can be”. The events run counter to hopes, the SLP MP declared, mentioning that the decisions of introducing the integrated history course, “is an insistence of staying in the CIS”. In the 3d session of the Parliament of the XVI legislature, the MPs assembled in 32 sittings and adopted 300 decisions. Their vacation will last till September 13.
