Veaceslav Ionita, head of the parliamentary commission on economy, budget and finances, will send a letter to Prime Minister Vlad Filat and to Minister of the Interior Alexei Roibu, requesting an exception that would allow drivers with cars registered abroad to move on public roads without being fined. The MP promised to do so after he met with a group of car owners on Wednesday, June 29, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At the end of May, the Government approved an emergency bill allowing drivers who entered Moldova with these cars before April 4, 2011, to circulate until January 1, 2012. In order to take effect, the bill must be approved by the Parliament.
“Unfortunately, the Alliance members refused to discuss the bill, claiming they needed to analyze it. But until we find a solution, the policemen will find their own solution on the roads”, said Veaceslav Ionita. The Liberal-Democrat MP added that the proposal would be included on the schedule for the next meeting of the Parliament, on July 7. “God help us, I hope the Parliament meets and we vote the bill in two readings so that you feel men at home”, he told the drivers.
According to the current legislation, cars with foreign plates and older than 7 years can enter Moldova only under a temporary placement customs regime. The vehicles cannot stay in Moldova for more than 90 days a year.
