The chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Environment and Regional Development, Violeta Ivanov, says that the Law on Waste, passed on August 15 in two readings, "is a crime against citizens". During a press briefing, the the Democratic MP asked President Igor Dodon not to promulgate the law.

The project stipulates that the incineration of waste on the territory of Moldova will be carried out under rigorously controlled conditions. Incineration and co-incineration will be permitted within the units authorized by the Environmental Agency. Air and water emissions from waste incineration and co-incineration plants will not exceed the emission cap provided by the normative acts.

According to the MP, the project was not examined by the parliamentary committee in corpore. Violeta Ivanov claims that the committee's deputy chair, MP Inga Grigoriu (ACUM/DA), along with two other members of the committee, covertly prepared the committee's report on the draft law. Violeta Ivanov calls for the bill to be returned for review and debate, with the participation of experts. Violeta Ivanov says that the Resolution of the European Parliament stipulates the reduction of incineration and promotes alternative methods.

"The incinerator is a machine that produces toxic waste from less toxic waste," said the deputy. According to her, waste incinerators have been shut down in many countries in recent years for health concerns.
