The initiative Movement “For People”, which includes politicians, local elected officials and civic activists, started to collect signatures in favor of an approach to the Government to fully subsidize household users’ electricity, heat and natural gas bills during the three winter months.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, Marina Tauber, deputy chairwoman of the Shor Party and a member of the Movement “For People”, presented the party’s Memo and called on the citizens to subscribe to this.

The Republic of Moldova now goes through the most profound socioeconomic crisis since the declaring of its independence. The wave of price rises affected all the social categories and seriously hit the real sector of the economy. The prices of all the energy resources constantly hit records and became a huge burden for the citizens. Inflation reached rates similar to those of 1999 and the Republic of Moldova became a champion in terms of price rises in Europe,” said Marina Tauber, reading the Memo.

The politician called on civil society and the whole political class, regardless of the doctrine, to support the Movement “For People” in its approaches. “We will be making every effort, by legal ways, so that the Government of the Republic of Moldova is obliged to fully pay the bills to consumers during the three winter months,” stated Marina Tauber.

Denis Roșca, first deputy chairman of the Building Europe at Home Party (PACE) and a member of the Movement “For People”, noted that the government failed. Everyone realizes that the Republic of Moldova is a failed state, but the people lack courage to say this. The government team consists of incompetent persons who cannot cope, but who have a good capacity to take out loans.

Mihai Petrache, chairman of the Centrist Union of Moldova, said all the budget funds, including the raised foreign loans and the provided grants, are money that belongs to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. It is the right of the citizen to know how public finances are spent. “We see full lack of transparency in the use of public funds. There is a practice that lasted for several years, when the most important problems are solved at night,” he stated.

The initiative Movement “For People” will start to collect signatures on February 6. Signatures will be collected on the street and online. A time limit for doing this and a number of signatures weren’t set. “We aim to collect as many signatures as possible,” said Denis Roșca, a member of the Movement.
