Thirty-eight women from the districts of Leova, Șoldănești and Ialoveni acquired skills to become actively involved in the management of the humanitarian crisis thanks to the project “Solidarity and Activism for Peace” that was implemented by “Motivație” Association of Moldova during a year.
In a news conference hosted by IPN, Victoria Boțan, public relations specialist of “Motivație” Association, said that in each of the districts covered by the project, a local coordinator helped the Association to carry out its activities. The project contributed to increasing the participation of women from the given districts in the response to the humanitarian and Ukrainian refugee crises.
In two training seminars staged as part of the project, the participants managed to realize their potential so as to help people in their community. They identified allies for solving the crisis at the local level and worked out advocacy plans. The seminars centered on the inclusive response, including to the humanitarian crisis, based on disability and gender. The participants learned how to more efficiently communicate with the public authorities.
Within the same project, 66 women from Moldova and Ukraine, with and without disabilities, were involved in the promotion of social inclusion. This result was achieved by organizing three activities – a cleanup activity in Ialoveni, a cultural activity in Șoldnești and a visit to the house of culture in Borogani village of Leova district. All the activities were aimed at promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities and female Ukrainian refugees.
The cleaning activity in Ialoveni involved volunteers who cleaned up, including persons with disabilities. In Șoldănești, at the museum “Dumitru Matcovschi Memorial House”, the participants learned more about the history of Vadul lui Rașcov village, had sincere discussions, recited poems. At the sitting in Leova, the over 100 participants tested traditional dishes and learned about traditions typical of the district. “They showed that this cohesion is possible by promoting national customs and traditions,” stated Victoria Boțan.
As part of the project, over 500 persons affected by the humanitarian crisis received direct assistance in the form of food products, hygiene products or other kinds of support, depending on their specific needs, including of persons from vulnerable families. According to Victoria Boțan, the crisis affected a lot the persons in the region, including Moldovan families that have persons with disabilities in their composition.
