An increasing number of Moldovans choose to study for their master’s degree and doctorate in the U.S., shows the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange published by the Institute of International Education in partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the U.S. Embassy.
The new Open Doors data was released on the occasion of the 15th annual celebration of International Education Week. It shows that the number of Moldovan students enrolled in U.S. institutions of higher education in 2013-14 was 328, with 37% of them being involved in master’s degree and doctorate programs, as opposed to 28% five years ago. Also, nine American students studied in Moldova, by one more than the previous academic year.
“The U.S. continues to be a preferred destination for Moldovan students owing to the quality and prestige associated with the studies in the United States,” said Education USA Regional Director Ann Merrill. The access to information about studies in the U.S. is ensured through the Education USA center.
The number of international students at colleges and universities in the United States increased by eight percent to a record high of 886,052 students in the 2013/14 academic year. The United States hosts more of the world’s 4.5 million globally mobile college and university students than any other country in the world, with almost double the number hosted by the United Kingdom, the second leading host country.
