The price for Schengen visa will increase starting next year from 35 euro to 60. The price increase is related to increased prices to new control system at the border, including biometric data as well as fingerprints and DNA identification.
Ministers of Interior of EU member states, who met in Luxembourg, decided to implement this price increase.
„We want to have biometric visas and they will cost more” Franco Frattini, EU Justice Commissioner explained.
Sweden, Greece and Hungary voted against price increase. EU should apply a more flexible visa policy in the interest zones for the Union, as Western Balkans, Russia and Ukraine, Greek interior minister Vyron Polydoras mentioned. We have to encourage the citizens of these countries to enrich and to get to know EU better, he noted.
Only children up to 6 years old, pupils and students within exchange programs and teachers accompanying them, as well as scientists, will not need visa.
