Moldova’s squad is ready for 2024 Davis Cup

The Republic of Moldova will be represented by four tennis players at the 2024 Davis Cup that will be hosted by Montevideo, Uruguay. The team includes Radu Albot, Ilie Snițari, Ilie Cazac and Aleksandr Kozbinov and is led by Andrei Ciumac, who will not ye play on the court.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, the president of the National Tennis Federation of Moldova Ceslav Ciuhrii said that the presence of the best Moldovan tennis player, Radu Albot, in the team increases the chances of success for the Moldovan team.

According to Ceslav Ciuhrii, 2023 was a very good year for the national team. “We managed to qualify for World Group II due to the successful performance of the team consisting of Cozbinov, Snițari and Cazac and captain Andrei Ciumac. At this moment, given that Radu is free to play in this period, we will have the best composition,” stated Ceslav Ciuhrii.

The participation in the competition in Uruguay will be a chance to qualify for World Group I. “We had chances to qualify in 2016, but missed them. This year we have chances again to qualify in Group I,” said Ceslav Ciuhrii. According to him, the Moldovan tennis players will be remunerated after the Davis Cup depending on each game won.

Radu Albot, who this year will be part of the national team, said that the squad that will go to the Davis Cup includes the best tennis players of Moldova at the current stage. They don’t expect the competitions to be easy as it is not easy to play away, especially against Latin American opponents. He will soon leave for Uruguay with the team to train on the tennis courts there and he leaves only with thoughts of victory.

The captain of the team Andrei Ciumac said the fact that Radu Albot is part of the team is a great advantage. Tomorrow already, the team leaves for Uruguay, where a week of training follows.

Tennis player Ilie Cazac noted that he is pleased to form part of the team. Last year, the team also played well and qualified for Group II. He is hopeful that they will win this year as well. Ilie Cazac is a top-rated junior tennis player of Moldova. He forms part of the Davis Cup team for the third year.
