Moldova’s population total number: 3,395,600

The total number of Moldova’s population, excepting Transnistria and municipality Bender, was 3,395,600 on 1 January 2006.
According to National Bureau of Statistic, of population’s total number, 1,322,700 live in urban areas and 2,072,900 in rural areas. Thus, 717,900 persons live in municipality Chisinau, including 648,900 in Chisinau city, Codru, Cricova, Durlesti, Sangera, Vadul lui Voda and Vatra towns, and in rural areas - 69,000.
At the beginning of this year, in municipality Balti were living 127,600 citizens, and in U.T.A. Gagauzia - 155,700 persons, including in municipality Comrat - 23,500, town Ciadar-Lunga - 19,400, in
town Vulcanesti - 15,700 and 97,100 in villages.
In district Orhei there were living in the first day of this year 115,800, in district Hancesti - 119,600, district Cahul - 119,200 inhabitants, in district Ungheni - 110,700, in district Soroca - 100,900, in district Causeni - 90,400, in district Falesti - 89,800, in district Straseni - 88,700, in district Floresti - 88,600, in district Sangerei - 87,000, in district Drochia - 86,400, Edinet 83,500, in district Anenii Noi – 81,500, in district Briceni - 77,300, in district Calarasi - 74,800, in district Criuleni - 72,000, in district Stefan Voda - 70,500, in district Telenesti - 69,900, in district Rascani - 68,900, in district Nisporeni - 64,900, in district Cantemir - 61,300, in district Cimislia - 60,800, in district Glodeni - 60,500, in district Ocnita - 56,400, in district Leova - 51,600, in district Rezina - 50,800, in district Donduseni - 45,900, in district Taraclia - 43,000, in district Soldanesti - 41,9, in district Dubasari - 35,100 and the least, 28,900 in district Basarabeasca.
According to official data, in 1990 Moldova had 4,363,000 inhabitants.
