Moldova’s gross external debt in 2022 up 8% on 2021

The gross external debt of the Republic of Moldova in 2022 was by 8% higher than in 2021. According to the preliminary data of the National Bank of Moldova, on December 31 this was US$ 9.457,80 billion, IPN reports.

The central bank noted that the ratio of the gross external debt to the Gross Domestic Product was 1:65.6%, by 1.6 percentage points higher than on December 31, 2021.

The long-term debt represented 72.4% of the gross external debt, being by 9.3% higher than at the end of 2021. The short-term external debt grew by 4.7% and constituted 27.6% of the total.

The public external debt represented 34.5% of the external debt, totaling US$3.263,61 billion (+19.5% from the start of the year). The private external public was US$6.194,19 billion, up 2.8% on December 31, 2021.
