Foreign policy expert Victor Chirila considers that the future ambassador of Moldova to Russia must be a supporter of the integration into the EU, Info-Prim Neo reports. Victor Chirila said that there are a number of candidates who deserve being entrusted with this post. “The person who will be named to this position must be young, experienced and with a recognized diplomatic career. He/she must also be a real professional, a diplomat who knows very well the relations with Russia and all the sensitive problems and issues, who enjoys credibility in Moscow and can make the politicians and representatives of civil society hear him/her,” the expert said in a news conference. The post of ambassador in Moscow fell vacant on April 25, when Ambassador Andrei Neguta was recalled. Earlier, the diplomat was accused of saying in an interview that the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the Transnistrian region before term would endanger Moldova and the whole region. The Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry described the statements as regrettable and reiterated the necessity of pulling the Russian army out of the breakaway republic. A number of persons have been recently mentioned as possible candidates for the post of ambassador to Russia, including Liberal-Democrat MP Chiril Lucinschi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Popov, the cousin of Democratic lawmaker Dumitru Diacov, Mihai, Socialist MP Zinaida Greceanyi, and former Education Minister Victor Tvircun.
