Moldovans working abroad transferred over half a billion USD in eight months

Moldovans working abroad transferred USD 526.24 mln in the first eight months of 2006. The funds were wired via the banking system, including USD 377.99 mln through quick transfer systems. Data provided by the National Bank of Moldova show that the transferred sums of money are increasing each month, by about USD 4-7 mln monthly. In January the remittances constituted USD 43.76 mln, in February – 47.24 mln, in March – USD 60.43 mln, in April – USD 63.58 mln, in May – USD 68.49 mln, in June – USD 74.18 mln, in July – USD 81.13 mln and in August USD 87.43 mln. According to independent evaluations, official remittances could amount to USD 800-900 mln by the end of the year.
