The 32 Moldovan passengers who got stuck on the border between Turkey and Bulgaria were accommodated at a hotel in Turkey and are waiting for the Bulgarian authorities’ decision as to the permission to cross the territory so as to reach Moldova.

Entrance to Bulgaria for foreign citizens is banned until July 31, except for difficult humanitarian situations.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Daniel Vodă has told IPN that Moldova’s Embassy in Sofia sent a letter to the Bulgarian authorities, asking to allow entering and transiting Bulgaria.

“In this case, the Bulgarian colleagues are examining each case apart and formulate a response to those requests. No response came so far,” stated Daniel Vodă.

The carrier accommodated the Moldovans at a hotel situated on Turkey’s territory. The Embassy keeps in touch with representatives of the company so as to coordinate the subsequent actions.

“Our Embassy in Sofia is taking all the measures to safely transport our citizens. The carrier undertook to ensure conditions for those passengers,” he added.

Daniel Vodă reminded that the carrier and passengers should consult the travel advisories that are updated each Friday. These are available on the Ministry’s Facebook page and official website.

The Ministry also set up a call center with the numbers 80 090990 or 373 22 788 722 that nationals and their relatives can use to inform the Ministry and embassies about the experienced difficult situations. The call center works from Monday through Friday between 8am and 5pm, Moldova’s time. Information in electronic format is also received nonstop on the email address callcenter@mfa.gov.md or through Skype: callcenter-moldova.

The bus with 32 passengers and four employees of the carrier got stuck on the Turkish-Bulgarian border while returning from a trip.
