The citizens of the Republic of Moldova can apply for consular services through the E-Cons Consular Information System launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. This incorporates five subsystems, namely:  the Contact and Support Center for Romanians Abroad that includes the Call-Center and Mail-Center modules; the information system for the integrated management of services for citizens; E-Pass; E-Visa and the National Visa Information System. Through the agency of this modern system, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed to eliminate the bureaucratic barriers between the consular office and the citizens and to create much easier information channels for the applicants for consular services, IPN reports.

Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ioniță told a news conference that the consular information system is generically called E-Cons and was launched under the slogan “Consular services closer to your home”. With such an information system, the Romanian consult service aligned with the most modern European consular networks, outstripping even states with much greater potential. These systems are especially complex and fully cover the range of consular services provided by the Ministry.

Daniel Ioniță noted these systems are not perfect, but are perfectible and the suggestions formulated by the people will contribute to their improvement. These will be integrated into the system so as to satisfy all the requests for consular services with professionalism, seriousness and swiftness. “This way, we call on all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to correctly inform themselves about the consular services, which are fully free, provided by our network that in the Republic of Moldova is represented by the Consular Section of Romania’s Embassy in Chisinau, the Consulate General of Romania in Cahul and the Consulate General of Romania in Balti,” stated the ambassador.

He mentioned the decisions adopted by the Romanian side to simplify the procedures for obtaining Romanian papers, such as the abolition of taxes for consular services, regulation of the procedure for obtaining Romanian nationality by minors who were not included in parents’ nationality regaining files, possibility of submitting applications for transcribing or registering birth or marriage certificates at civil status offices in all the municipalities of residence or at the six sectors of the municipality of Bucharest.

Consul General Mausela Pițigoi said Romania’s consulates and consular sections in the Republic of Moldova daily process about 1,000 applications. The long waiting time is due to the large number of applications and effort is being made in this regard to process more applications. As to the technical problems faced by the applicants of consular services, Mausela Pițigoi said these can be reported through live sessions on the Facebook page of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which are staged each Thursday, through the email address or at the Call-Center.
