Moldovan winners at the European Wrestling Championship in Serbia have been awarded at home

The Moldovan sportsmen who won medals at the European Wrestling Championship in women's and Greco-Roman wrestling for cadets and juniors (15-17 years) were awarded on Friday, August 14, in Chisinau, by the Wrestling Federation of Moldova. Later, they will also receive prizes from the government, IPN reports.

Petru Craciun won a silver medal in the 50 kg category, Nicolae Lesnicov got bronze in the 58 kg category, while Ion Darii finished 5th in the 69 kg category. Ion Soilita (54 kg), Stefan Tonu (63 kg) and Mariana Dragutan (43 kg) all won bronze medals. Meanwhile, Anastasia Nichita got the gold in the 56 kg category. The team was lead by coach Sergiu Chim.

The Wrestling Federation of Moldova handed 2000 lei to each athlete. The head of the organization, Victor Peicov, stressed that Moldovan sportsmen manage to win medals despite the difficult training and financial conditions.

The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Dragos Hancu, said that the results were good and despite the hardships, our athletes will continue to bring back medals. According to a government decision, winners of the 1st place will receive 6000 lei, 2nd place – 4000 lei, 3rd place – 2600 lei, 5th place – 750 lei and 6th place – 500 lei. Winners of the top places will also receive monthly stipends – 2500 for gold and 2000 for silver.

The European Cadet Wrestling Championship took place between August 4 and 9 in Subotica, Serbia.
