Moldova’s best weightlifter last year Oleg Sirghi, who is a double European champion, finished 14th in the 56 kg class at the World Weightlifting Championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, IPN reports.

The other three Moldovan athletes who competed so far haven’t impressed by their performance either. In 62 kg class, Ion Tarna took the ninth position, while Ghenadie Dudoglo – the 18th position. In the 69 kg class, Serghei Cechir ranked 11th in snatch after lifting 142 kg, but failed in all the attempts in the clean and jerk and thus withdrew from the competition.

Moldova’s Artiom Pipa enters the competition today, November 11. He will compete in the 77 kg class. At the championship in Almaty, Moldova is represented by ten athletes.
