Moldovan Trade Deficit rose 1.5-fold

The commercial balance in the first trimester of this year resulted to a deficit of 294, 9 million USD or by 102 million USD (1.5-fold) more comparing to the similar period of 2005.
According to the information of the National Bureau of Statistics, in this period the exports amounted to 259.4 million lei, exceeding by 4.6% the level of the same period of 2005 and the imports – 554, 3 million USD, a 25,7% higher value compared to the similar period of 2005.
The value of the exports to the CIS countries constituted 130.1 million USD, 50.2% of the total exports, by 6.8% more than the similar period of the last year. The exports destined to the countries of the European Union amounted to 76.8 million USD, 29.6% of the total exports, increasing by 7% compared to the first trimester of 2005. In the countries of the Eastern and Central Europe were exported goods of 35.4 million USD that represents 13.6% of the total exports, by 11% more than in the similar period of the last year. On the other hand, more accentuated growths could be observed at the import of goods from the CIS members (+26.3%), from the European Union (+15.2%) and from the Central and Eastern Europe (by 1.7-fold).
A biggest share within the exports was registered at the exports of alimentary products, beverages and tobacco – 38.3% of the total amount, textile materials -20.3%, vegetal products -13.5% etc.
The scheme of imports in 1st trimester presents high results at mineral products -30.8% of the total imports, machines and apparatuses, electric equipments – 11.6%, chemical products – 7.9%, textile materials – 7.6%, metals – 6.3%, alimentary products, beverages and tobacco – 6%, plastic materials and rubber – 5.3% and others.
The level of imports over exports constituted in the reference period 48% compared to 56.2% in the first trimester of 2005.
