Moldovan swimmers win medals at Open Championship of Ukraine

The Ukrainian town of Dnepropetrovsk on March 16-20 hosted the Open Swimming Championship of Ukraine, where the competitors could secure qualification for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the event involved 492 swimmers among whom the representatives of Moldova. The national swimming team included Alexei Sankov, Tatiana Perstniova, Tatiana Salcutan, Alina Bulmag, Tatiana Chisca, and Pavel Izbisciuc.

Pavel Izbisciuc ranked third and met norm B in 50m freestyle, updating the national record with the result of 22.96 seconds. Tatiana Salcutan won five medals in 100m, 200m backstroke and 200m mixed adults and juniors.

Alexei Sancov won four medals in freestyle. In the juniors’ competition, the athlete medaled gold, silver and bronze, while in the seniors’ competition - bronze. He competed in the 200m, 400m and 1 500m races.
