Moldovan swimmers win 16 medals

The national team of Moldova has won 16 medals at the Swimming Championship in Latvia, namely four gold medals, six silvers and six bronzes. The event took place in Riga on May 1-3 and brought together athletes from nine countries, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

Alexei Sancov won gold in the 400 m freestyle and 200 m freestyle, silver in the 400 m medley, silver in the 200 m butterfly, and silver in the 1 500 meter freestyle.

Vlad Perju won gold in the 50 m freestyle and gold in the 100 m freestyle. Tatiana Perstniova won two silver medals in the 200 m butterfly and 800 m freestyle as well as bronze in the 400 m medley.

Alexandra Vinicenco won silver in the 200 m breaststroke, two bronzes in the 100 m breaststroke and 50 m breaststroke, while Tatiana Salcutean won three bronzes in the 200 m backstroke, 400 m freestyle and 200 m freestyle.

The competition represented a qualifying round of the World Swimming Championship that will take place in Russia’s Kazan in July.
