A Moldovan got 17 years in prison for killing, together with his fiancé and three fiends, an Italian doctor in Italy’s Milan and stealing property worth over 600,000 lei from his house. The prosecution will appeal the decision to a higher court and demand a harsher punishment, the Prosecutor General’s Office has said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
In November 2007, the man, in concert with his 22-year-old fiancé and another three persons - all citizens of Moldova – devised a scheme to break into the Italian doctor’s house, where the young woman worked as housekeeper. The woman staged the entire horror scenario and gave the men the key to the apartment’s door.
On the night of November 13, 2007, the men entered the house and tied the 64-year-old doctor and his son. Afterward, they opened the safe and stole gold and silver jewelry as well as icons, pictures and plates and dishes assessed at over €617,000. The doctor could not endure and died.
Immediately after committing the crime, the Moldova left Italy. He was arrested in Moldova in August 2009. The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office demanded that he be sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment.
In May 2009, the Milan Court of Jurymen sentenced the man’s fiancé to 20 years in prison. She was arrested by the Italian police three months later.
The other three Moldovans are wanted.
