Romania aims to help Moldova fight corruption by implementing relevant projects on both banks of the Prut River. A first step in this direction is the setting up of the Anticorruption Labyrinth - a construction in the open air that will allow the people to inform themselves about corruption and methods of reporting acts of corruption - in Chisinau and Cahul. The initiative is promoted by the National Anticorruption Center of Moldova and the General Anticorruption Directorate and the Association “Pro-Democratia” of Romania.

Daniel Mergeanu, head of the General Anticorruption Directorate’s Prevention Division, in a news conference at IPN said that the Anticorruption Labyrinth, which is set up as part of the Project “Pay ZERO for what is Due to You”, is successful in Romania and he is glad that the idea was borrowed by the colleagues from Moldova. More projects to prevent corruption will be implemented in Romania and these could be put into practice in Moldova as well.

Vitalie Verebceanu, head of the National Anticorruption Center’s Corruption Prevention Division, said they want to borrow good corruption fighting practices and the Anticorruption Labyrinth is designed especially for the youth as namely the young people can do changes in the field. Within the Anticorruption Labyrinth event, the participants will fill out questionnaires to show what they know about the phenomenon of corruption and if they know how the acts of corruption can be reported.

The Ministry of Youth and Sport is the partner of the project. Deputy Minister Andrei Spanu said the young people are that force that can change the state of affairs. They can inform themselves and then inform their relatives, teachers and friends how corruption can be combated so that it does not affect their lives in the future.

The Anticorruption Labyrinth will be launched in Chisinau on August 30 and in Cahul on August 31, starting at 11am.
