A patient in Moldova is receiving a liver transplant sourced from Romania. The organ was airlifted by Romania’s emergency rescue service SMURD.

“Today, thanks to the pan-European organ sharing mechanism, coordinated by the FOEDUS organization, on whose board of directors I’m privileged to sit, a SMURD helicopter landed at the Chisinau International Airport with a liver sourced in Romania and which is being transplanted to a Moldovan patient as we speak”, announced Vladimir Bolocan, director of the National Transplantation Agency.

The transplant is performed by a team of doctors at the “Timofei Moșneaga” National Hospital, a spokesperson confirmed for IPN.

Bolocan noted that in the last three years transplant activity in Moldova has seen a lot of progress.
