The national currency, the Moldovan leu, is the witness to the transformations that the Republic of Moldova has gone through, from gaining independence to its path towards European integration, the governor of the National Bank of Moldova Anca Dragu says in a message dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the introduction of the Moldovan leu, IPN reports.
The official noted that each banknote and coin "reflects the history and culture of a people who fought for sovereignty and looks confidently into the future." "Together with society, the national currency is constantly evolving in order to respond to the challenges of the modern economy, adapting to the accelerated pace of IT transformation," said Anca Dragu.
The governor assures that the National Bank is making sustained efforts to pave the way for secure and modern digital payment solutions, which are present today in Europe and around the world.
"Launched in March this year, MIA has become during only a few months an essential tool for cashless payments. Today, every fifth active citizen in the Republic of Moldova uses this innovative solution. The Moldovan leu now travels faster and more efficiently in the financial circuit, reflecting the dynamism and modernization of financial services," the central bank’s governor noted in her anniversary message.
"I wish this day to be an opportunity to look forward, with confidence, towards a future in which Moldova will find its natural place in the European Union – an area of peace, prosperity and opportunities for every citizen.”
