Veaceslav Platon is featured in three criminal cases that are pending in court and in three more criminal cases that are being investigated. Platon avoided appearing in court, being localized in the UK. Even if his whereabouts are known, the Moldovan law enforcement agencies didn’t file an application for his extradition, the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Veronica Dragalin told a news conference.

“At the investigation stage, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office can indict a person who is outside the country. If we manage to do this, the law allows us to go on with the case in the absence of the accused. We took these measures so that he is charged in three separate cases and we could complete the investigation and then send the case to court. Additionally, we have three more criminal cases against Platon in court,” said Veronica Dragalin.

She noted that they met with particular impediments at Interpol with regard to Veaceslav Platon and they are waiting for the opportune moment to make a successful extradition request with relevant arguments.

In December 2017, the Buiucani Court of Chisinau sentenced Veaceslav Platon to 12 years in jail for swindle and money laundering. In December 2018, the Chisinau Appeals Court quashed the judgment, sentencing him to 25 years behind bars. Later, by a decision of October 2019, the Supreme Court of Justice ordered the same appeals court to retry the case with another panel of judges.

As Veaceslav Platon absconded and didn’t appear before judges, on August 12, 2021 the court put him on the wanted list, ordering his arrest.
