Moldovan judoist Victor Scvortsov has won the bronze medal in the 66kg category at the European Youth Championship, which took place in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Victor Scvortsov had four victories in his category before being defeated in the semi-finals by Russia's Denis Lavrentiev, who later became champion.
Stanislav Cernega was also very close to climbing the podium, but he was defeated by Turkey's Feyyaz Yazici in competition for the third place.
Moldova was also represented at the tournament in Bosnia and Herzegovina by three other judoists: Andrei Blindu (73kg), Radu Gincu (81kg) and Ion Remarenco (90kg), who were ousted in the qualifying stage.
Moldova's national team ranked 20th out of 39 countries participating in the championship.
Next on the agenda of the Moldovan judoists is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which started on Tuesday, November 23. Moldova is represented by four athletes: Vadim Bocan and Marcel Trudov in the 73kg category, and Valeriu Duminica and Sergiu Toma in the 81kg category. This competition is an opportunity to obtain qualification points for the 2012 Olympics in London.
