Moldovan-German economic relations discussed in Chisinau by Federal Minister Robert Habeck

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action notes a concrete interest from German companies in investment insurance in Moldova. Federal Minister Robert Habeck discussed with a number of officials in Chisinau the need to turn this into an essential instrument of bilateral economic relations. The official invited companies to take advantage of the opportunities offered in Moldova, IPN reports.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany said that in Chisinau, Federal Minister Robert Habeck met with Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his counterparts – Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, and Victor Parlicov, Minister of Energy.

The talks focused on the war in Ukraine, Moldova’s energy supply, the country’s accession to the EU and the German support for Moldova in the EU integration process. In particular, Minister Habeck and his counterparts discussed the German foreign trade instruments that are generally available for projects in Moldova.

According to a press release issued by the Embassy, the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which maintains its own competence center for Moldova, and the German Committee on Eastern Europe Economic Relations are committed to further strengthening the German-Moldovan economic relations. This shows that the Republic of Moldova is and will continue to be part of Germany’s economic space.

In this connection, the volume of trade in goods with the Republic of Moldova has been steadily increasing for years, reaching about €870 million – bilateral trade in 2023 (total export + import).

The main products imported by Moldova from Germany are: cars and other vehicles, medicines, machines and equipment for harvesting and threshing crops, etc. The main products exported to Germany are: wires and cables, furniture (chairs), fresh and dried fruit, clothing, juices, sunflower seeds and oil from them.
