The Moldovan-Chinese intergovernmental commission for commercial-economic cooperation will have a meeting in Chisinau in the second half of this year. The Chinese authorities are interested in the implementation of large-scale investment projects in the Republic of Moldova. The issues were discussed in a meeting of China’s Ambassador to Moldova Zhang Yinghong and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Octavian Calmac said that China is an important partner of the Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan side offered the Chinese side to stage a meeting of the intergovernmental commission for commercial-economic cooperation in Chisinau in the second half of this year. The meeting will discuss aspects of the bilateral relations, including the initiation of negotiations on the signing of a Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.

Ambassador Zhang Yinghong said the commercial-economic relations between the two states are now very good and there are all the preconditions for fostering them. The Chinese authorities would like to implement large-scale investment projects in Moldova. “I’m sure that the holding of the meeting of the intergovernmental commission in Chisinau will represent a good occasion for initiating new investment projects that will be mutually advantageous for the two counties,” he stated.

Staring with 1992, the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China have signed 59 bilateral cooperation agreements in a number of areas. In 2014, the two states signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation. Under this, China will provide over €2.6 million worth of grants for developing the “Government and Civil Society” sector of Moldova in 2014 – 2017.
