Till the end of 2006, in Moldova is to be implemented an identification system for all domestic animals. The Government adopted on Wednesday, May 24, the draft law regarding the identification and registering animals. According to the Minister of Agriculture and Alimentary Industry, Anatol Gorodenco, the future law is implementing a recommendation of the European Commission regarding the improvement of the quality standards, alimentary security, preventing and fighting animal diseases. In this way, the Republic of Moldova will get the possibility to export animal products on the European market, states the quoted source. In this way animals from individual farms and specialized enterprises will be registered. This system will ensure the control of the animals from the moment of their birth until their consumption or commercialization. The circulation of cattle within the country limits will be performed using movement documents, and in case of bovines – with bovine passport. According to the project, the animal owners have the obligation to inform the official veterinary doctor, in maximum 7 days, about the birth, sell, inclusively the import, death, loss and if sacrificing the animals. For the violation of the provisions administrative sanctions will be applied in accordance with the legislation in force. The identification system was already tested in Straseni raion, and until the end of this year, the system will be implemented in all the raions of the Republic of Moldova. The expenditures for implementing the system are estimated at 1.23 million lei, offered by the European Commission. In three months over 27 thousand animals were identified and registered and the process is to be continued.
