Moldovan boxers won 4 gold medals at the Balkan Championship

The national boxing team won four gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the Balkan Boxing Championships for seniors, youth and juniors, held recently in Serbia. The Moldovan athletes took 5th place in the overall team ranking, IPN reports.

Among the four Balkan champions were Roman Spac (52 kg), who defeated two strong opponents from Greece and Bosnia to win gold. Ianus Caravan (63.5 kg) won the gold medal after defeating one athlete from Serbia and one from Albania. Alexandru Paraschiv (67 kg) managed to win gold thanks to his victories against a Greek and a Serbian boxer.

Mihai Porombac won the gold medal in the 48 kg category in a tense final match against a Ukrainian athlete.

Liviu Munteanu (92 kg) won the silver medal after a tight final against a Ukrainian boxer. While Catalin Turcu (51 kg) and Cristian Lemnaru (+80 kg) won bronze medals after losing in the semi-finals.

And Igor Nazarov (63 kg) and Ilia Hornet (80 kg) came in 5th place after losing in the quarter-finals.

The performances of the Moldovan boxers were possible thanks to a good collaboration between the Boxing Federation and the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, demonstrating the progress and high potential of performance sport in the country.

The Balkan Championships between juniors, youth and seniors took place in Loznica, Serbia and brought together over 200 boxers from 13 countries.
