The Moldovan authorities are preparing a new plan for the reintegration of the Transnistrian region and the role of Romania and the European Union in the negotiation process should increase, given Moldova’s  European course, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian stated for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service.

According to the official, at least 14 reintegration plans or strategies were worked out during 30 years. “Surely, they weren’t made public. They failed certainly. No result was achieved. But action is taken not arbitrarily. Any action is planned and action plans for a year or two years are designed... All these projects, primarily after 2005, mandatory take into account one thing – the law adopted by Parliament in 2005,” stated Oleg Serebrian.

Accortding to him, this law is a red line that cannot be crossed. It refers to the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, the unitary state, demilitarization, decriminalization of the Transnistrian region, which are elements that must form part of this action plan.

The official noted the Ukrainian side can help the Republic of Moldova with expertise and at diplomatic level, primarily because Ukraine is part of the negotiation process. “It is our most important neighbor in the negotiation process. Romania form part of the negotiation process not directly, but though the agency of the OSCE or the EU. I actually believe that Romania’s role should be increased, primarily together with our gradual integration into the European space. The European Union’s role should also grow as the Transnistrian subject will increasingly become a European integration subject,” the Deputy Prime Minister stared for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service.

“We need to reunify the country and to integrate it into the European Union. So, these two processes must be coordinated and synchronized somehow,” said the official, being quoted by IPN.
