Bogdan Macovei was the first Moldovan who entered the Sochi Olympic Games. The naturalized Romanian on February 9 scored a better result than a day before, but nevertheless finished 36th out of 39 competitors in sledding, IPN reports.

Felix Loch of Germany won gold, while Russian Albert Demcenko and Italian Armin Zoeggeler won silver and bronze respectively. At the Torino Olympics in 2006, Macovei came 30th, while at the Vancouver Olympic Games of 2010 - 33rd.

Alexandra Kamenshchik also wasn’t very successful. She finished last in biathlon 7.5km sprint.  She ranked 84th with a result of 27.37 minutes. Gold winner Anastasia Kuzmina of Slovakia finished the race by 6.30 minutes faster than Kamenshcik. Russia’s Olga Viluhina and Ukraine’s Vita Semerenko also mounted the rostrum. In several days, the Moldovan athlete will compete in cross-country skiing.

At the Sochi Olympics, Moldova is also represented by Victor Panzaru (cross-country skiing) and Georg Lindner (giant slalom). The Olympic Games close on February 23.
