Moldovan athlete wins bronze at European Cup

Sergei Marghiev medaled bronze at the European Cup Winter Throwing. Moldova’s best athlete in 2014 achieved the result of 73.84 meters, IPN reports.

He was outstripped only by Olympic champion Krisztian Pars of Hungary and world champion Pawel Fajdek of Poland. In the first attempt, he threw the hammer at a distance of 71.72 meters, while in his last, sixth attempt Marghiev scored his best result this season and won thus a place on the rostrum.

At the 2015 European Cup Winter Throwing held in the Portuguese city Leiria, Moldova was also represented by Marina Nichisenco, who threw the hammer at a distance of 64.65m, and Andrian Mardare, whose result in javelin throwing was 62.34m. The squad was led by coach Soslan Marghiev.
