The Border Guards Services of Moldova and Ukraine have signed the Protocol on information exchange. The document was signed in the presence of the EC Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner during the European Union - Moldova – Ukraine trilateral meeting on border issues held in Brussels, from 20 to 22 November.
According to the Border Guards Service (SG), the European official mentioned at the signing ceremony that the information exchange is an important aspect in the context of combating transborder crimes.
EC welcomed the Protocol’s signing and urged the sides to take actions to meet standards of the European Union in the respective fields.
The trilateral talks’ agenda included 5 items, including the Cooperation with the Border Assistance Mission, joint control, demarcation of the state border etc. SG head Igor Colenov has informed EC about the steps taken towards implementing the 42 recommendations of the Mission presented and approved at the Coordinating Council in May this year. At the same time, it was presented the information regarding the organization of the joint operations at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.
European Union - Moldova – Ukraine trilateral meeting in Brussels is the fifth of this kind, the last one being held at the beginning of 2006.
