Moldovagaz received confirmation from Gazprom for 5.7 million cubic meters of gas per day to be supplied in October, for both sides of the Nistru River, of the expected 8.06 million.

“We saw a similar situation in October of last year, when gas supplies were cut by 30%. Only that this time we have an agreement in place, which must be respected”, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu commented on the news.

As regards power supplies for October, the state company Energocom signed a contract with MGRES for 67% of the needed amount at a price of $62.5 /MWh. For 30% of the amount, a contract was signed with Energoatom, at a price of $77 /MWh for the period from October 1 to 15. For the remaining 3%, Ukrhydroenergo was contracted at a price of $132 /MWh (October 1-15).

“During this period no one will be cut off from gas or power supply. We remain in saving mode, continuing to save up and making preparations for the winter”, said Andrei Spînu, who announced a press conference to take place on Saturday at 10:00.

Until Friday evening, no confirmation whatsoever existed of Russian gas to be supplied to Moldova in October. Despite Moldovagaz having a valid contract with Gazprom, supplies remained uncertain due a deadline being broken for a debt audit that is part of the agreement. But authorities in Chisinau have repeatedly suggested the actual reason may be different– under the agreement, a new price calculation formula has to be used starting October 1 which would bring prices down. Regardless of the outcome, the Moldovan government assured the country would not be left freezing.
