Moldova wins first ever medal at World Combat Games

Oleg Nemțan is the first Moldovan athlete who won a medal at the World Combat Games held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He won silver in sambo for blind athletes in the up to 79 kg weight class, IPN reports.

According to the Paralympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova, the athlete lost the gold to Elder Luis Moreno Garcia of Venezuela. On his road to the final, Oleg Nemțan scored two victories, against the athletes from Kyrgyzstan and Georgia respectively. Oleg Nemțan is the only Moldovan competing at the Games this year.

The World Combat Games take place once in four years and are organized by SportAccord. The competition held between October 20 and 30 includes 16 events. Only six of these have competitions between Paralympic athletes, namely sambo, aikido, muaythai, Armwrestling, ju-jitsu, and savate (French boxing).

For the first time this year, the Paralympic Games were included in the World Combat Games.
