Moldova has all the chances not to be blackmailed anymore with the Russian gas now that the import of gas from Romania became possible. Such conclusions were formulated in the talk show “Special edition” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

International law expert Vitalie Gamurari said that for the first time Moldova is now able to choose the suppliers. “It is an example of the correct Europeanization of our country. The fact that one more supplier appeared will make competition possible, which is something absolutely normal for the energy resources market. Also, Moldova will no longer be so vulnerable before Moscow,” he stated.

Political analyst Roman Mihaes said the putting into operation of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline is a great step forward and the Russian blackmail will disappear. “When the Romanian gas reaches Chisinau, Moldova will feel much safer in terms of energy security. Undoubtedly, the Romanian gas represents a solution for the end-users as this product could become cheaper in the future,” he said.

Valentin Buda, editor-in-chief of the publication “Event of the Day”, said the Iasi –Ungheni gas pipeline represents a proof of Romania’s loyalty towards Moldova and of real support for the Moldovan citizens, regardless of the political class ruling the country. “Russia’s blackmail will no longer work,” stated the journalist.
