The Republic of Moldova will lose the second tranche of €30 million that it can receive from the European Union if it implements the provisions of the Association Agreement and the last two conditions imposed by the EU. This will happen if the Moldovan MPs do not vote the law on NGOs that generated discussions in society. Moreover, the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Moldova Dragoș Tudorache said the government’s position on this law is inexplicable, IPN reports.

“It was known that this is one of the legislative reforms awaited in a modern society. It was known that this is on the list of conditionality elements. Prime Minister Chicu and President Dodon for multiple times expressed their firm commitment to the reformation process. Ignoring now a law passed by Parliament can be explained only from the electoral perspective,” Dragoș Tudorache stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

He noted that the time limit for fulfilling the last conditions expires at the end of June, but the conditions can be met earlier.

The parliamentary opposition considers the MPs were intentionally forced to self-isolate for 14 days after two MPs tested positive for COVID-19. PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco said the same procedures are applied at the local level and the local opposition has to also self-isolate.

“Not all the MPs should have self-isolated, as the Speaker of Parliament decided, but only those who came into contact with the infected person. We could have worked and adopted the necessary package of laws that would have brought €30 million that are so needed by the Republic of Moldova,” stated the MP.

Sergiu Litvinenco said he hopes that when the 24-day self-isolation period expires, on June 4, the MPs will come together for a meeting on June 5.

Political analyst Ion Tăbârţă said the MPs could hold a setting online. He opined that owing to the low number of MPs that remained in the parliamentary opposition, these are afraid to lose governance.
