The national youth team of Moldova finished the Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic Countries Cup on the 8th place. The tournament ended on Sunday, January 29, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. In their last game, the Tricolors lost on penalties to Kazakhstan, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The score was 3-3 at the end of 90 minutes. Igor Dima brought Moldova the lead on 22 minutes, but the Kazakhs managed to turn the score around on the hour mark through Beisebekov and Hijnicenko. The Moldovans leveled through Radu Gansari, but Kazakhstan reacted immediately and Islamhan scored their third. Moldova’s Constantin Iavorschi managed to level the score once again after converting a spot kick in the last minute of play.
The winners were decided on penalties, where the Kazakhs proved more accurate. The only Moldovan to miss a penalty was Maxim Antoniuc.
“I was contented by my team’s play in this match. First of all, we and our opponents have put on a spectacular display. Second, we managed to score from direct play and third, I had the opportunity to try some candidates for the youth team at this tournament”, Moldova U21 manager Alexandru Curteian stated.
Russia won the CIS Cup after besting Belarus 2-0 in the final. Ukraine grabbed the third place having defeated Latvia 3-0.
