Moldova will re-adhere to the Constitution of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), in order to re-establish relations with this body and determine the further collaboration opportunities. Moldova joined this organisation on June 1, 1993, but because of failing to pay membership fees, it was deprived of its right to vote. At the moment Moldova’s debts to UNIDO constitute circa 844,500 euro. From the accession year and till now, Moldova benefited within the UNIDO from 10 projects of technical assistance in different domains, totalling more than 500,000 euros. In order to re-establish its right to vote within the organisation, and initiate the procedures of the present debt restructuring, the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure in partnership with other governmental bodies initiated negotiations, the purpose of which is to sign an agreement on the restructuring of Moldova’s debts to UNIDO, a collaboration programme, opening of a permanent UNIDO office in Chisinau, and others. UNIDO is a specialised agency in the United Nations system, having as basic goals to encourage and extend assistance for developing countries, and states affected by economic crises and natural calamities, to utilise the available local human and natural resources and produce goods for internal and foreign markets with the aim of promotion and acceleration of the industrialisation of these countries.
