Moldova – the second country by remittances related to GDP: World Bank

Moldova has ranked the second in a top of the countries compared by the amount of foreign earnings to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – 38.3%, finds a report by the World Bank, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. A year ago the ratio was 27%. Tajikistan is in the top with an index of 45.5%. Romania is on the eighth position with an amount of foreign earnings of $9 billion in the first 9 months of the year. Romania is however below India (30 million in 9 months), China ($27 billion), Mexico ($23.8 billion), the Philippines ($18.7 billion), Poland ($11 billion), Nigeria ($10 billion) and Egypt ($9.5 billion). From January to August 2008, the amount of remittances in Moldova was $1.1 billion, up 52.8% year on year.
