The viability of the economic cooperation and development in the Black Sea region is manifested by means of the initiation and promotion of joint interest regional programmes and projects, Vladimir Voronin said during his speech delivered at the XV summit of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation (BSEC), held in Istanbul on June 25.
In this context, Voronin mentioned about the launch of two projects of major importance for the region: on the development of the Black Sea Ring Roadway and on the development of transport on the Black Sea. According to the head of state, the entire system of transport corridors will make this region closer to the European region and the cooperation more advantageous. The strengthening of transport networks, energy development and liberalisation of trade, besides the fact that will contribute to increasing the potential of region’s infrastructure, will positively influence the social cohesion, will ensure a balanced regional evolution, strengthen the stability, security and sustainable development in the entire region, Voronin said.
In his words, Moldova sees BSECO as a valuable forum for building a joint future by promoting cooperation at all levels, supporting the promotion of economy, transport, fight against terrorism, organised crime, trafficking in human beings and drugs.
At the Special meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs organised on Monday, June 25, The European Commission obtained the status of observer to BSECO.
The draft Statement on the occasion of the XV anniversary of BSECO was passed during the meeting. In his speech, Andrei Stratan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova said that Moldova supports the dialogue of BSECO with the EU, which makes the members of this organisation to get closer to the European values and standards.
